About the Foundation

The Wright Memorial Public Library Foundation was created in 1997. The Foundation was formed to operate exclusively for the purpose of advancing the goals, objectives, and priorities of the Wright Memorial Public Library, as established by the Board of Trustees of the library. The Foundation raises funds for Wright Library, holding, investing and expending those funds for the exclusive benefit of the library.

The Foundation Board consists of between five and nine Trustees who serve three year terms. Interested applicants are welcome to contact the Board President for an application.

Foundation Board meetings are held at 6:30PM on the second Monday of each month in the library's Meeting Room and are open to the public.

Why support Wright Library?

Wright Library is funded largely by tax dollars from the State of Ohio and local property taxes. While the State continues to reduce its funding for the Library, expenses continue to grow. As a result, tax revenue is insufficient to support the Library beyond basic services. Your gift is important and appreciated.

First annual fund drive is in progress

The theme of this year's appeal is, "With your help, we'll write a new chapter in the history of Wright Library." One of the Foundation's immediate priorities is to contribute to an important facility update that will feature a newly remodeled youth services area and re-open the rear entrance to the Library.

The Library had plans to complete this project last year, but it was put on hold when state funding for public libraries was cut in the middle of the fiscal year. A long term goal for the Foundation is to build an endowment to ensure excellent library services for future generations of Wright Library patrons.

In the past the Foundation has provided funds for the Summer Family Blanket Concert series, guest speakers, and the Summer Reading Club.

The Wright Memorial Public Library Foundation is a component fund of The Dayton Foundation. Funds from the Library's budget were not used for the fundraising drive.

Your gift is welcome throughout the year and will make a difference to one of the Oakwood community's unique resources.
